Northern Idaho. The scenery is breathtaking and I get so excited when I have the opportunity to photograph a wedding in that part of the state. Nina and Ethan were married at a private residence in Sandpoint, situated on a section of beautiful Lake Pend Oreille. A home that Ethan actually helped build. Even with a slight drizzle, I couldn't have asked for better surroundings and better people to spend the day with.

She is Korean-American. He is from England. They met in Thailand and currently live in Australia. Lia and Robert have been all over the map. And what was to be a wedding in Thailand ended up taking place in New York where Lia's parents are living. They opened up their gorgeous home right off Central Park for the girls to get ready before we all hopped in a limo to beautiful Prospect Park in Brooklyn for the ceremony. Guests were in attendance from all over the world. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. A lot of new friends were made that day and I'm pretty sure I now have a couch or two to crash on whenever I get over to Australia. Sweet.

We all have a “what” in life. Some of us are teachers. Some of us are lawyers. Others are store clerks, doctors, waitresses, salespeople. We also have a “how” – all steps we go through to accomplish our “what.” But what about the “why?” Why do we do what we do? What is the heart behind why we're doing what we're doing? I share the same “what” with thousands of people. I am a photographer. But what makes me unique from all other photographers is my personal “why.” The “why” makes me unique because my vision and perspective is my own.
I am a photographer because the connection between people moves me. I am extremely passionate about creating authentic, genuine images of couples in love. To me, it’s not about pretty pictures, the best compositions, or perfect poses. To me, it’s about creating emotionally meaningful images for my couples. Creating art that moves. It’s about capturing something intangible that brings happiness and inspires. It’s about connecting with people in a way that is hard to put into words.
If I had to pinpoint the exact moment I was inspired to pursue photography professionally, it would date back several years ago to my best friend’s wedding reception. There was a computer set up, playing a slideshow of engagement images as well as some wedding images from earlier that day. A large group of people huddled around the screen to watch the images slide by, myself included. But it wasn’t until I stood back from the group and watched the people watch the slideshow that I noticed everyone experiencing a range of different emotions. There was laughter. There were smiles. There were tears. These images were creating a deep, emotional connection with their viewers and it was at that moment I got chills up my spine and knew what my real calling was. It was at that point I knew I wanted to create emotionally meaningful art for couples who were willing to share the deepest parts of themselves with me.
An important part of working with the couples I am blessed to work with is having them understand why I do what I do. Why I’m driven the way I am. I am passionate about capturing the authentic, genuine side of who people are. I strive to be true to myself and to do what moves me. As a result, the work I produce is much more personally fulfilling. Not everyone will like what I’m doing and that is okay. I am confident in who I am, and I am confident in my “why.”
So…what is your “why?”
